Golden Grove is situated about 220 Kms due east of Geraldton, Western Australia.
GULF started on site in March 2003 and the operation has gone from being a 1 truck trial in a shed with no walls and a dirt floor to a 4 truck operation (engine hours ranging from 3,000 – 11,000) with a great workshop, a pit, tyre bay, lunchroom and office, and comprehensive parts stock. Golden Grove has 6 Charmers suspension trucks on site which are kept busy with our underground haulage carting up to 100,000 tonnes a month (500,000 TKM’s. Tonnes carted per kilometre).
GULF is the main Underground Haulage Contractor and hauls from the 1 kilometre vertical mark, which equates to a round trip of 14 kms. Our staffing list comprises of Ross Jeffries as Site Manager, Stephen (Telly) Duncan as Alternate Manager, a site clerk, 12 drivers, 4 fitters and 2 tyre fitters. Employee wise, we have a very low turn over of staff with most of the current staff having been on site for over 3 years.
We place a high emphasis on safety at this site and have recently achieved 500 time injury free days (our best was 1807 LTI free days). In today’s climate we consider this to be quite an achievement.
The mine itself is owned by MMG, a Chinese Government mineral investment company. It produces zinc and copper although it does also yield small amounts of gold, silver and lead. The current life expectancy of the mine is another 8 – 10 years and we are hoping to still be here at the end of this timeframe (with room for us to expand during this period).
Since GULF has been onsite the changes made by previous owners have been outstanding with upgrading of accommodation, dining room and sport facilities in the camp. Onsite we have a new fuel bay, wash down bay and a new tyre repair/changing shed which also allows us storage space for tyres and parts.
