Golden Grove is situated about 220 Kms due east of Geraldton, Western Australia, and a lot has been happening in the last couple of years on this site. Gulf started on site in March 2003 and the operation has gone from being a 1 truck trial in a shed with no walls and a dirt floor to a 5 truck operation, with hours ranging from about 22,500  to 10,000 , with a great  workshop, a pit, tyre bay, lunch room and office, and comprehensive parts stock. Golden Grove has 2 Air bag trucks  and 3 Charmers suspension trucks  and are kept quite busy with our underground haulage carting up to 100,000 tonnes a month ( 500,000 TKM’s. Tonnes carted per kilometre. )

The mine it self is owned by Oxiana, a base mineral company which is solely Australian owned, and we cart both Zinc and Copper although they do get small amounts of Gold, Silver and Lead from the mine. We are only carting from underground at present with a maximum depth of about 900 metres but getting closer to the 1 kilometre mark, equating to a one way trip of about 7 Kms.  The mine has a life span of about 8-10 years so hopefully it will be a nice steady site with future potential. We have 21 people on site, 13 Drivers, 4 Fitters, a tyre fitter, a site clerk, Stephen Duncan the assistant manager and Ross Jeffries as the manager. The site has a very low turn-over as far as staffing levels, most of the staff have been on-site for over 12 months.

Oxiana are currently doing a lot of improvements around site, upgrading accommodation, new stores facility and freight yard, dining room, bar, gym, new fuel bay and wash down bay and hopefully new tyre repair / tyre changing area which will give us a good storage area for parts and our tyres.

We place a high emphasis on safety on site and have recently achieved 1500 lost time injury free days and in today’s climate is quite an achievement.
